Dr. Dmitry A. Kukuruznyak is the director of research and development at the Animate Condensed Matter Laboratory, where he leads the development of non-biological materials that reproduce the function of biological neural networks. They are used to make living brains for autonomous systems. Before joining the company, he was a research scientist at the Max-Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (Germany), Max-Planck Institute for Solid State Research (Germany), and National Institute for Materials Science (Japan).
He received BSc in physics from St. Petersburg State University (Russia), MSc degree in physics from the University of Miami (USA), and PhD degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Washington (USA).
